Does
CeuUniversity offer college credit or degrees?
Q. What is home-study?
A. Home-study is an easy way to get your continuing education requirements met;
no conferences, hotels, parking, childcare, etc. You study wherever and whenever
it suites you. Traditional homestudy courses are based on books written by
well-known professionals in the field. Online courses are based on materials
developed and maintained on the World Wide Web by recognized authorities in that
field; these can be read online or
downloaded to your computer.
Either type of course has a designated course page with
an online test. The online test supports automatic grading and submission to us.
You have completed the course requirements when you complete the test.
Q.
What is the advantage of my taking continuing education hours on-line as opposed
to traditional mail homestudy?
A. CeuUniversity is an on-line continuing education provider dedicated to
providing valuable and affordable courses to professionals. The courses are
provided utilizing the Internet to promote an atmosphere that recognizes the
time constraints and educational needs of working people.
-
All courses are completed at the participant's convenience, in the comfort of
his/her home or work place.
-
All course materials and teaching tools are available by online reading,
printing, or downloading the document.
-
All post-tests are scored automatically upon
completion and students know their results immediately. The tests can be
taken any number of times at no additional cost. Mail in courses usually take
more time to receive test results.
Q.
How do I register, and
how does home-study work?
A. We no longer require pre-registration to take our courses. You may pick the course you want to take – either online or traditional homestudy
from the Courses page. The link to the course takes
you to the course materials. Study the material and take the online test when
you are ready. The online version of the post-test is self-scoring so you will
know instantly if you passed. You may take the test as often as necessary to
pass at no additional charge.
When you pass the course, you are directed to a payment
option page. You
may then elect to pay for the course and receive a certificate of completion, or
you may do nothing at that time and perhaps pay for the course later. You have
three (3) weeks to pay for the course before the test results are deleted. You
will automatically be sent an email giving payment options to use during the
three week period.
Traditional homestudy courses also have a web address where you may find
additional optional online resources related to the topic and the post-test for
your course. Optional linked material is just that – you don't have to read it
to pass the course. If you are taking a traditional course, you need to buy the
book used as text (online or through your local bookstore).
Q.
What is a
Continuing Education Unit?
A. One CEU equals one hour of educational study. Some Boards designate one CEU
as ten hours of study. To avoid confusion and misunderstanding with these, our
certificates indicate the number of contact hours awarded.
Q.
If I take a 12 CEU course, does that mean it will actually take me 12 hours to
read the material?
A. Not necessarily. We recognize that people read and comprehend at different
speeds. You also may already have considerable knowledge of the material and
that may also reduce the study time. Time to take and pass the post-test is also
included in the unit calculation.
Q.
What is the grading policy for passing a course? Am I charged for repeating a
failed course?
A. If you receive a passing score (at least 70% percent), you will receive your
certificate of completion once you have paid the course fee. If you do not pass,
you may retake the test until you do at no additional cost.
Q.
How long do I have to wait to get my test results and certificate after
completing a course?
A. All post-tests are scored automatically online; you will know immediately if
you have passed. Tests that are mailed or
faxed will be scored within 24 hours of receipt provided the course fee has been
received.
You have three options for receiving your certificate of
completion once payment has been made.
1. If you pay by credit card online the
certificate is immediately available for downloading and printing. In addition
you may choose to have it:
-
Emailed (default) to you
at no additional fee.
-
Mailed to you at no additional fee.
-
Faxed to you for an additional handling fee.
2. If you pay by mailing a check or money order, your
certificate will be sent to you within 24 hours with your choice of having it:
-
Emailed (default)
to you at no additional fee.
-
Mailed to you at no additional fee.
-
Faxed to you for an additional handling fee.
Q.
I am
new to the Internet, will I be able to access your courses?
A. Anyone may take these courses over the Internet and if you have difficulty
you can contact us for assistance. We will do what we can to assist you.
Q.
I need hours but the courses you offer aren't for the number of hours I need.
Can you vary the number?
A. We can always reduce the number of hours that a course is being offered at.
For example, if you need a nine hour course and the topic we offer is 12 hours,
we can reduce the number of hours you pay for. However, you may still need to
read all of the course material as the post-test will not be changed and it is
based on all of the original material. If you need more hours than a course is
being offered at then it may be possible to increase the material depending on
the state where you are certified (contact us if this is your situation).
Q.
I want to take a specific course that you do not offer, is there a way to get
this course from you?
A. It may be possible depending on the topic requested and the board where you
are certified. We may be able to custom design a course based on a specific book
as text and your completion of a critique. Please contact us for this
information.
Q.
Can I
get credit for reading a professional book or publication?
A. This depends on the state and board you a dealing with. We may be able to
give credit for books or other publications that you may read. You would be
expected to write a short paragraph critiquing the material. Prior approval is
required. The rate is $5 per credit hour based on the length of the material.
Contact us by email if you have something in mind.
Q.
When do you require payment for the courses?
A. Our prices are posted on the Courses page. We request that you pay for your
course within three (3) weeks of passing the post-test.
After that time has passed, you test will be deleted. If you want the
certificate for that course after it has been deleted you will have to retake
the post-test.
Q. I
am in a huge time crunch ...can you help?
A. Definitely. The quickest way is to take the course and pay by credit card --
your certificate is immediately available for printing. If you pay
by check or money order, we have to receive your payment prior to our processing
your certificate. The date on your certificate will be the day
you passed the post-test.
Q.
What if I
am in a hurry but don't have a credit card to use?
A. You can use the PayPal system to have the amount transferred directly from
your checking account.
Q.
Do you
accept credit cards by phone?
A. No. Sorry, we are not set up for that.
Q.
Where
do I mail my check or money order?
A. CEU certificates are provided only if we have received your check or money
order payable to Dr. Patrick McGinnis for the full amount due. Please mail to:
Dr. Patrick
McGinnis
CeuUniversity.com
P.O. Box 734
Vero Beach, Florida 32961-0734
Q.
I want to use my credit card and I am directed to use PayPal, what
is that?
A. PayPal is a company that processes our credit card transactions for us. We
are a small company and find it easier (and cheaper) to accept credit cards and
bank transfers this way. Because we keep our costs down we can keep our course
fees low. There is no addition charge to you to use PayPal.
Q.
What is Paypal's contact information?
A. For most any issue, Paypal's online help system is very useful: PayPal Help. You can also contact them by E-mail or by phone at 1-800-221-1161 (Toll Free) or 1-402-935-2050.
Q.
Does CeuUniversity provide any Scholarships or Tuition fee waivers?
A. No. We already offer the lowest fees for courses and cannot afford the time
investment entailed in determining who should/should not receive further
reductions. We do not receive any public funding or assistance.
Q.
How can I get a
printed copy of a course post-test?
A. The course post-test is
available for downloading through a link on the Courses page
and on the course webpage.
Q.
Where are
your courses approved?
A. We are proud to be Approved as Education Providers by the following
organizations:
Mental Health
We are approved providers of continuing education units for the initial
certification and the re-certification of mental health professionals by:
National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) - Provider #6069. The NBCC
approval is accepted in 39 states for several professional licenses.
Addictions
We are providers of continuing education units for the initial certification and
the re-certification of addiction counselors by:
National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC) - Provider
#000287.
Member of the International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium/Alcohol &
Other Drug Abuse, Inc. (IC&RC/AODA).
Florida Certification Board (FCB) - Provider #177A.
Member of the International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium/Alcohol &
Other Drug Abuse, Inc. (IC&RC/AODA).
States, countries, and other organizations that are members of the International
Certification & Reciprocity Consortium/Alcohol & Other Drug Abuse, Inc. (IC&RC/AODA)
have mutual reciprocity and usually accept addiction related education units
from providers that are approved by NAADAC and FCB. This includes the Armed
Forces and other US governmental agencies.
We recommend that you check with your state board, or governmental agency,
regarding the number of self-study ceus that are allowed and confirm their
reciprocity with one, or all, of the approving boards prior to taking courses.
Q.
I have already taken continuing education hours through your website. Are my ceu
hours transferable if I move to another state?
A. Your credit hours are usually transferable to any other state that our
approving boards have reciprocity with. We are currently accepted in most
states, please check with the board in your new area.
Q.
How many hours can
I take?
A. It is important to check with your licensing or certifying agency to find out
how many of your ceus can be taken through homestudy. Some states allow 100% of
ceus to be self-study; others, only allow only a portion of your ceus to be done
at home. Some boards allow homestudy courses to meet some of the requirements
toward initial license or certification. Please check with your board if you are
uncertain.
Q.
Are
your courses available to students?
A. Some states allow CEU hours to count toward initial certification and so all
of our courses are available to anyone. Please remember that we must be approved
to provide hours toward initial and continuing education in your state for your
particular professional field for the contact hours to count towards your
initial certification. Please check with your board as this varies from state to
state.
Q.
What is the time
frame for paying for the courses?
A. Once you complete your course you have three (3) weeks to pay for it. After
that your post-test will be deleted and you will have to retake the test.
Q.
What is your
refund policy?
A. Once you have received your certificate no refund is given.
Q.
Can I get a
duplicate certificate?
A. Yes; but there is an additional $5 handling fee after the original has been
sent to you.
Q.
Does CeuUniversity
offer college credit or degrees?
A. No, we are not accredited to offer college courses or degrees. We are
approved to offer continuing education contact units.
